Months and Months between posts again... I really need to update the site even when the acting may be a bit slow.
Well... the Toyota spot is airing pretty well and has been since April. So Cal has their own Toyota spots but it seems to be airing pretty much everywhere else around the nation.
Other than that I have been preparing for the biggest role of my life... and it has nothing to do with acting.... I have been cast as "the best dad I can be"!!!
My son... Cole David Black was born on 6.24.06 at 9:30am. He entered into the world weighing in at 6lbs 13oz and was 21 inches long. He is amazing and we couldn't be happier.

Cole has got himself a blog as well... So feel free to track his progress (it is being updated more than my own site at this point in time). You can visit it @ www.ColeDavidBlack.com
Thanks for checking in and have a wonderful summer and as always... if you feel a hankerin drop me a line in the Contact Section
Lazy? Yes... I have not updated the site since breaking the news that I had booked a Toyota spot. Well here I am about a month later with the breakdown.
As always it was a GREAT time. It was a night shoot, which is always fun, but boy was it COLD out. The premise is as follows. Lovely young mother returns home in her ROCKIN Toyota Sienna after a night out. A push of a button opens up the side and back doors allowing her to carry her sleeping children inside. Returning to the car she spots her (dashingly handsome) sleeping husband in the front seat. As she has just done with the children, she carries her husband into the house, closing all the doors in Sienna with (again) one push of a button. She is Super Mom!!!
As you can guess, I play "sleeping husband" (masterfully if I do say so myself). The humor comes in when you see us both together... she is small, I am big... and she carries me. Brilliant.
I was rigged up with wires and them getting me off the ground was quite impressive... nothing like that to help you evaluate snacking in between meals.
Below are some pics from the shoot.
It was truly a great experience. Director and crew were so easy going and friendly. The ad agency folks were great and came up with some really funny ideas. Overall... not a bad day!
Should start airing in the next few months so keep those peepers peeled.

Well well well... look who decided to stick his head out of his hole to see if there would be six more weeks of winter.
I admit, I have not been very good at updating the site recently. I blame it on the constant of life.
My PepsiCo spot was running a bunch before the holidays which was great but if you blinked you would have missed me. Unless you knew where I was in the spot it was near impossible to see me... which is a bummer but still nice that I made the final cut to begin with (two folks who were in the shoot with me were cut out completely).
The end of the year was very slow on the acting front but 2006 has been a whirlwind of activity. I have already booked my first spot and the year is only 20 days old. In the next few weeks I will be shooting a spot for Toyota... very exciting. I will be sure to update the masses after the shoot to provide all the juicy details.
Keep up the good fight and feel free to drop me a line in the Contact Section

A quick update just to voice a well deserved "whoo hoo" to a few of my friends who are putting out some great work.
My buddy Brendan has got himself a pretty good recurring gig on the new "Weekends at the DL" on Comedy Central. You can check out his turn as the infomercial announcer man for a very special website
Long time friend Mary has also broken through recently and booked herself a GREAT Bud Light Spot. You can watch it here. You have to be 21 to enter the site. Then check out the spot called "Eyelids". Mary doesn't walk away with the rose but who wants a guy who is only into beer anyway right?
Finally a quick thanks to my new friends at Dell who enabled me to read what I am typing right now. Had an issue with my monitor and they were quick to get me a replacement. Thanks to Kyle and Allen!!

The streak is over.... FINALLY. That's right dear reader, JD Black has booked himself a new gig... it has been so long that I had nearly forgotten what a craft services table looked like.
PepsiCo is my new daddy. I am a corporate man now. The spot is not for Pepsi proper but for the PepsiCo company. They are going to be rolling out a healthy lifestyle campaign whereby they will be promoting their non sugar filled products... those that are actually good for you: Aquafina water, Gatorade, Quaker Oatmeal, Wheat Bread etc... all owned by PepsiCo.
There will be a 45 sec spot (not your standard 30.. this is a super size spot) that will feature a few vignettes showing people making "wise" and "healthy" choices. I will be in the piece where the hip, good looking lady parks way out in the boonies and walks to the store rather than taking the spot way up front. I am in the crowd that ends up cheering her on as she approaches the front of the store. Don't blink or you will miss me. I will pop out of the crowd and shout some words of encouragement. Cause, you know... that’s the kind of guy I am.
So that is the latest. Hopefully some more work before the end of the year. I do know my friends and I should be working on the film challenge again this year so look for that news in the fall.

While it has been a slow summer in terms of acting work it has been busy in all other capacities. A few weeks ago, I was able to escape the madness of LA and head off to experience something brand new. Off to Montana for a week of wrangling cattle and riding horses. My pops and I particpated in a real life cattle drive and had a blast. The people were so friendly, the food so good and my horse riding skills ready for a much needed improvement.
A getaway to see some beautiful country and a chance go play cowboy was a great way to spend a week.... bring on all the western roles!!!

Happy Oscar Day!!! Another year gone by and no nominations for JD... ahhh so it goes :)
Yes, it has been a while... for the 2 people who visit this site... Hello. I have been busy auditioning for commercial and independent projects but have not broken through in 2005... yet. I am waiting for pilot season to end so that I can start looking for theatrical representation again (they are all tooooo busy to meet with folks now). So that is the long and the extra short of it.
The Big Lots spot did well over the holidays and for the first time in a long time I have nothing on the horizon. I am sure that will change soon. And when it does... this will be the place to find out about it.
Enjoy the day!!

Been a bit slow lately on the audition front but I am happy that the Big Lots spot has been running like gang busters. If you haven't been able to see it check it out online.
Hopefully the New Year will bring more work :)
Happy Holidays to all. And, as always, feel free to drop me a line in the Contact Section

UPDATE... "Don't Call it a Comback" is now posted online and available for viewing. Quicktime required... be patient on the download. Enjoy.
Watch "Don't Call it a Comeback".
See ya
It was a fantastic time. The info we received on Friday night was as follows
GENRE: Mocumentary
CHARACTER: W. Burns - Ventriloquist
PROP: Monkey - Animate or Inanimate
LINE: "I never knew you felt that way"
I played Willy Burns, the world renowned Ventriloquist who was taken down by scandal while at the top of his game. We are thrilled with how our film came out and hope to have it posted online soon.
Here are a few pictures from the wild and wacky shoot

I have made the jump... finally. New headshots are now live on the site in the Headshots Section. My good friend Ryan Forbes did these for me. I am thrilled with how they came out and as color shots are now the standard I was overdue for the new look. Hope you like them... and I hope they get me some work :)
Working on an exciting project next weekend. I will provide details once we are all done.
